I recommended starting with non-essential items, such as out-of-season clothing, and gradually working your way to everyday necessities, including toiletries. This strategy can keep your current space functional while organizing for your move. From there, set deadlines for each room or types of things, and stick to a schedule to help yourself stay on track.
Create a Packing Area
Designate an area in your home as the packing zone. Here, you’ll keep boxes, tape, and labels. Also, you can pack items without distractions and work steadily.
It also helps to maintain order in other parts of the house, minimizing the chaos of moving. Try to keep this area uncluttered and stocked with packing supplies.
Pack in Energy Bursts
Packing in short, focused bursts might be the best thing for adults with ADHD. Set a timer for 15–30 minutes, and dedicate that time solely to packing. Once the timer goes off, take a short break before continuing. If you feel like you can continue after the timer goes off, go for it!
Breaking down the task of packing can help you focus and avoid getting overwhelmed. Listening to music or a podcast can make the process more enjoyable and less tedious.
Delegate Tasks to Others
Moving is easier when you get help. If possible, enlist help from friends and family; then, you can delegate instead of packing. Hiring professional packers has several advantages, such as speed and experience, which can significantly lessen your burden. It provides an opportunity to step back and manage the process, helping you feel in control over the move.
